Atlanta Regional Commission
ARC – Workforce Development Division:
To address challenges faced by the region's youth who are from low income families, school dropouts, runaways, homeless, youth with disabilities, juvenile offenders, or in the foster care system, the Atlanta Regional Workforce Board’s (ARWB) Youth Council supports a comprehensive youth services system. ARC is the grant recipient and administrative entity for the ARWB’s Federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funds. Youth activities seek to enhance academic and/or job skills through regional collaboration with local service providers, youth organizations and businesses by supporting and implementing programs containing:
- Tutoring and other services leading to completion of secondary school
- Alternative secondary school services and GED preparation
- Employment opportunities, full-year and summer
- Work experiences, internships, job-shadowing
- Leadership development opportunities
- Mentoring and supportive services
- Post-secondary occupational training and education
WIA funds support a set of publicly and competitively procured providers of youth services as selected by the Board and Youth Council. These providers offer services funded through the WIA for the ARWB Workforce Area, which includes Cherokee, Clayton, Douglas, Fayette, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale counties.
